current favorites

Since Jacob's taste seems to change so often, I'll try to keep up with what's current ...

Foods:
Ketchup!, mac & cheese, chicken & rice (his school makes some kind of chicken & rice that he really likes - he will also eat chicken fried rice from PF Changs), spaghetti (Macaroni Grill is his favorite), Trix yogurt, bagels, Fiber One bars (he thinks they're candy or something), popsicles & fudgesicles, string cheese, pretzels, & other little crackers. He also loves going to Starbucks ("buck treat" is what he calls it) to have a milk & either a donut, bagel, muffin (cupcake, he thinks), or pumpkin loaf.

Music:
Still likes Raffi & the Wiggles. In fact we listened to "Ready to Wiggle", "Shaky Shaky" & "Fruit Salad" at least 5 times in a row this morning. He also really likes "Gimmie More" by Britney Spears (don't ask!), "Black Horse & a Cherry Tree" (he calls it "Hoo Hoo") and "Rock & Roll, Part 2" ("Hey!" song).

TV:
favorite shows are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, My Friends Tigger & Pooh, Thomas & Friends and watches Sesame Street on occassion. He gets bored with the whole show though, as he prefers the Elmo's World segment & Count von Count skits. He doesn't watch The Wiggles too often anymore. He's too picky (he knows we have TiVo and shouts "No like that!" incessantly if it's a part he doesn't want to watch) to sit through a whole episode.

Movies:
He has so many & actually rotates through a lot of them so it would be difficult if I had to choose just one, or even two. But he does love: Finding Nemo, Cars, Monsters Inc., Bug's Life, Jungle Book, Toy Story ("Woody Buzz"), Toy Story 2, Dumbo, 101 Dalmations (he calls it "puppies"), & we recently got Curious George. He also watches some Elmo's World episodes, Thomas, the Wiggles, & most recently "Mickey's Treat" a Mickey Mouse Halloween show.

Toys:
Plays with his Little People sets (airport & garage w/cars), Duplos ("blocks") likes to build castles which are just towers, really, enjoys coloring, throwing balls around, playing outside, riding his bike, still likes sweeping & riding his rocking dog.

Books:
current favorites include - Go, Train, Go!; Blue Train, Green Train; Yummy Yucky; The Little Train; Curious George Rides; Curious George and the Rocket; Trucks; Baby Talk; Little Bunny Follows his Nose; Goodnight Moon. I'm sure there are more. He has so many books & LOVES to read. We're fortunate there.

Other randoms - loves his shark & dog pajamas; his Chargers jersey (YES!!!); refuses to wear this Small Paul zoo train shirt I bought him (I've tried 3 times now) calling it his "Curious George" shirt when he refused to take off his actual Curious George shirt for 2 days in a row. He also likes wearing this striped polo that has a grasshopper on it, but it barely fits. He is also picky about shoes. Getting him to try a new pair is almost impossible!! I have to put them on super quickly so he can see how fast they go on & how comfy they are. If there is a struggle in any way - it's over.

Watermelon Day

Jacob's school hosted "Watermelon Day" where they served/ate watermelon & shared watermelon crafts that they had been working on.

Here is the puppet theater made by Jacob's class:

Close-up of his bunny (he is on the bunny side of the classroom). Fine stickering job, no?

Each class made something out of a watermelon. Here is their class's contribution. A watermelon guppy. It won 2nd place!

Here he is modeling (?) his watermelon maraca. This is the next day when he got to take it home. (September 11th - notice the patriotic shirt ;) )

Close-up of the excellent coloring job on the watermelon maraca:

Running around a traffic cone with Sabrina & Arjun

Good thing Watermelon Day included this random traffic cone. The Bunnies & Guppies classrooms had tons of fun running around it and stuffing leaves into it. What fun you can have with the simplest of things when you're two!

Giving a goodbye hug to his good friend Arjun.

Overall J enjoyed Watermelon Day. He also ate a star-shaped watermelon popsicle, but once it wasn't shaped like a star anymore, he didn't think it was a popsicle any longer & wanted a new one. HA! Later we went to Islands for burgers, fries, ketchup (the best part!) & shakes. A great day!

Disneyland - Take 2

A couple of weeks ago, our good friends Cyndi & Chris were in town visiting the Happiest Place on Earth - Disneyland. Since we wanted to get together, and we also have annual passes, we decided to meet there. Jacob has recently discovered "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and "My Friends Tigger and Pooh" on the Disney Channel, so I thought he would be really excited to see all things Disney. (Beside the fact that he LOVES: Toy Story, Monsters Inc., A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, 101 Dalmations, Jungle Book, and Dumbo.)

The first time we took Jacob to Disneyland (his 2nd birthday) he was pretty overwhelmed and overstimulated. He hardly said a word the entire day. BUT - I figured this time would be different. He's 6 months older, he has discovered Mickey Mouse & Tigger ...

So this is us standing next to the Dumbo ride. Yes, standing *next* to the Dumbo ride. It was after I forced him on the Pooh ride kicking, screaming & crying. Crying! I was so surprised. Once we got started he was ok, but sheesh.

So we watched Dumbo fly around a few times, and he thought that might be ok. He did end up asking to go on & really liked it. He cried when the ride was over and we had to get off. He then asked to go on the carousel & really enjoyed that too.

Maybe our next visit to Disneyland will be more fun. We're planning to go with his little girlfriend Aubree, so we'll see ....
